Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance had specialclasses for Delahaye which had 18 entries, and Talbot-Lago which had 13entries.
Automotive fine artistWilliam Motta, who has been with
Road& Track
magazine since the late 1950s, created the poster artwork whichdepicts a stylish lady enjoying a peaceful sunset on 17-Mile Drive with herBorzois and her stunning red Delahaye. Motta’s original art is part of theMuseum’s permanent automotive art exhibition.
The class of 18 Delahayespresented stunning examples from such renowned coachbuilders as Franay, Figoniet Falaschi, Chapron, Saoutchik, Pourtout, Guilloré and Secheron. Seven Type135Ms, four Type 135MSs, two Type 165s, two Type 175s, two Type 180s, and oneType 235MS from 1953 made up this field.
The 1939 Delahaye Type 165Figoni et Falaschi Cabriolet owned by Peter Mullin and Jim Hull received Bestin Class.
The 13 Talbot-Lago entriesincluded fiction writer Clive Cussler’s 1948 Type T 26 GC Saoutchik Coupé, the1939 Talbot-Darracq Type T 23 Figoni et Falaschi Coach and the 1951 Type T 26GS Saoutchik Coupé…both from Switzerland. The 1939 Type T 150C SS PourtoutAerodynamic Coupe received the French Cup for the most significant car presentof French origin, and the 1947 Type T 26 Cabriolet received Best in Class.
The Pebble Beach Cup - awarded to the carjudged to have shown the best performance and restoration from entries in theMonterey Historic Automobile Races - was presented to George Wingard for his1922 Delage La Torpille Racer race car.
